Anvil Forge is a small Blacksmith and Metalworking company specialising in small and medium size projects with a bias for traditional and contemporary designs but willing to consider most proposals. We work with clients , architects , local authorities , schools etc etc. and try to offer an cost effective design without compromising design and quality.
Anvil Forge also offer experience days with various themes from the traditional ‘blacksmith day’ to one or two day knife making classes or maybe our ‘starwars / sci fi classes for something a bit more unusual !

Ian Marshall is a creative maker of exciting innovative metalwork both sculptural and functional. Items are generally hand forged in both mild and stainless steels making items suitable for internal and external situations. As well as sculptural pieces, he also makes functional items to commission.
Family run since 1982, we are based in Worcestershire producing a vast range of work. Small to large domestic to commercial. I have several years of experience in the field of metal processing. I have developed my skills from metalworking to art, I work with corten steel, one of my specialties is rusting and patination of surfaces, then passivation. I made funeral monuments, grave crosses, grace objects and religious jewelry. I have invented a process that creates a glassy transparent coating on the surface of metals while preserving the original beauty of the material. With his skills, he designs and makes hand-forged, bespoke, ornamental and decorative metalwork.
He blends modern engineering and blacksmithing and is enthusiastic about challenges and new projects.

I want my work to entertain in the same way that music does, to make the metal dance. It’s about communicating – it’s joyous. I like to think I can show people another world.
I originally studied painting at Chelsea College of Art but started making sculptures twenty years ago, when I discovered the combination of strength and malleability of metal when heated. Drawings quickly become forms.
The images that I portray tend to be derived from the natural world or from classical and mythological sources, but I’m also very interested in the mechanics of things, practical technology, and my most recent pieces sometimes include a kinetic aspect. The school gates I designed and built in Brighton as a public art commission demonstrate a marriage of artistic and technical abilities.
As well as fine art sculpture I produce bespoke metalwork, public commissions, and furniture. I also conduct art workshops for schools, colleges and teachers.

We work primarily in the domestic marketplace using a mix of modern manufacturing methods and traditional craft. Our product range includes, gates, railings, decorative metalwork, curtain poles, hearthside log holders, and pokers. We also undertake restoration work and leading in of traditional railings.

Heiner Zimmermann forges art and translates traditional forms into contemporary visual aesthetics. He is an ambassador of his craft. Growing up in his father’s workshop he learned and appreciated the ancient techniques and traditions of hammer and anvil. In his work Heiner combines a traditional formal language practiced in ancient craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetic expression. Heiner is interested in modern aesthetics which include a revised use of traditional techniques and materials and this is an approach he teaches as a professor in Arts and Craft, at HDK University of Gothenburg in Sweden.
He finished his formal training in 1991 and was awarded the national “Good Design Award” (now known as “Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany”). Other awards followed. During his formative years, supported by several scholarships, he travelled and worked for renowned metal artists across the continent and in the United States. He then went on to do further training in the conservation of art and architectural history in Venice. After his master’s certificate in 1998 he took over his father forge in Pliezhausen, Germany.
Heiner Zimmermann’s works is always the result of a search for form, structure and surface that touch and move the viewer. His work combines a respect for the forging tradition and its material with contemporary art and design. Each work is forged through a highly individual creation process. As each unique work appears its formal development symbolizes the union of an idea, and human will, with the material – iron.
